In this previous post, I explained how I was able to solve a problem where Outlook was eating way too much CPU.

Well guess what, the problem reappeared.  This time two processes were eating CPU like crazy: Outlook.exe and MsMpEng.exe.  The later being the Live One Care anti virus engine.  As soon as I was closing Outlook, CPU usage dropped to 2%.  As soon as I restarted Outlook, CPU usage went to 30-40%!!!

In One Care, I excluded the folder where the PST files are located and it solved the problem.

1. In OneCare, slick Change Settings.
2. Click Viruses & Spyware tab.
3. Click on the Exclusions button.
4. Click on the Add Folder button.
5. Navigate to the specific folder that contains the PST files (usually: C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook)
6. Click OK to finish.

Fun, fun, fun
